Re: ear piercing

It’s something I’ve thought about on and off for a long time (years) and never felt like there was any “need” except for events when I couldn’t wear earrings. I was thinking of this as being the impetus for me to finally get over the “Ooh, it’s going to hurt!”

  1. In terms of the actual act, it doesn’t hurt. It’s a pinch. Then as long as you take good care of your ears for the next few months while it heals, you shouldn’t encounter any problems (unless there’s a family history of sensitivity or something along those lines). It’s tender while it heals – actually, I don’t remember for my lobes, I just remember when I got my upper ear pierced I couldn’t sleep on my right side for awhile.
If you have a tendency towards sensitive skin, just make sure to get posts that are for sensitive lobes.

  4. Agreed – it doesn’t hurt badly at all. I’d say it’s no more painful than the needle when you give blood, for example, and it’s much faster than that.

  7. Earlobes don’t hurt unless your ears are sensitive to gold or silver (mine are sensitive to gold, so they pus). The needle is better than the gun, but the needle can only really only be done at a tattoo shop, while the gun is everywhere. Also, if you get it done and you go to Claire’s, make sure that the holes are even before they pierce because when I got my first holes done, the lady screwed up and I have 3 holes in 1 ear and 2 in the ear, the extra one because she was way off. Stainless steel or silver are the best because your ears don’t get allergic to them. Earlobes won’t be a problem, other holes are an issue with sleeping and stuff.
