I’m drying my hair by fan

Standard

With the addition of some semi-blackout curtains to Mike & my room, the lighting in here is much better. I think the curtain is cutting down on some of the heat that pours through the windows, too. I just wish the ceiling fan wasn’t so squeaky. I found a really sweet looking fan on homedepot.com for only $90. I wonder if the landlord would let us replace the fans. Cuz nice, unsqueaky fan>ghetto, squeaky, gold filigree fan.

I went to the pool this morning, and that was very pleasant. There was an old lady doing her water aerobics. I swam (unconsecutively) 30 “laps” (wait, is a lap one way, or both ways? Maybe I only did 15) and had a good time splashing in the nice water. My hair was a rats nest, however, when I got back to the house. I made an appointment on Friday to hack it off. Yes, I did say hack. It’ll grow back. It’s hot and bothering me, and I’d like to get it cut short(er). I mean, on Saturday, I took a shower before we got the Uhaul in the AM, and sitting on the couch at 6p that evening, I took it out of the ponytail it had been in all day and IT WAS STILL WET. Too much hair.

The house is coming together, mostly. I found my bedside table contents this morning, and took down the dangerous, poorly constructed shelving in our bedroom. Seriously, nails into drywall, holding up decorative pieces of edging, with shelves on top? That is not good. (Admittedly, the last bracket sounds like it’s tearing the drywall as I pry it off, so I’m just gonna kinda leave that one alone for now. You know, until I get annoyed at it and yank it off and then go DOH. I’d also like to pry off all the mirrored panels behind said shoddily constructed shelves, but that would probably hurt the wall more. My current plan is to somehow finagle Maggie’s white shelving unit up into that space. The unit measures 24″ wide. I measure the cubby at 25″, except at the baseboards, where it is just shy of 24″. I’m sure I can make it fit. With the proper application of force.

I also need to do laundry, like whoa. Maybe that will be this afternoon’s project on my week-long staycation. (My desired project, besides the mirrors, is to take down the tacky metallic wallpaper in the downstairs bath, but again, with the drywall!)

With that, I’m off to meet Mike for lunch at Islands. Mmm veggie tacos.

  1. I mentioned to Mike you guys totally want a portable AC unit. If you can find one with a tolerable noise level for you, it’s SO worth it, even if it is 3-4x the cost (depending) of a new ceiling fan. Plus, at least with the model my sister has, it’s much easier to install and you can take it with you if/when you move again.

  4. 1. Metallic paper: picture-worthy? Sounds it!
    2. Yay for swimming…
Good staycation? I hope you are having a relaxing time. Let me know if you’d like some help unpacking or with random stuff.
